Quick answer
Your Chinese zodiac animal comes from one character in your chart, the branch of your birth year. BaZi reads all eight characters, so it's far more personal. Everyone born in the same year shares an animal, but very few people share a full chart.
Why the animal isn't the whole story
- The year pillar is mostly about family and early life.
- Your core self is your Day Master, from the day pillar.
- Month, day and hour add your season, your relationships and your later life.
A note on dates
The BaZi year starts at Li Chun (around 4 February), not at Chinese New Year. If you were born in January or early February, your animal may differ from what you expect.
