Feng Shui Basics for Your Home

A calm, lamp-lit living room at night

Quick answer

Feng shui is about letting energy (qi) flow well through your space. Start with a clear, welcoming entrance, place your bed and desk in a "commanding position", keep the space bright, airy and tidy, and balance the Five Elements.

Five simple steps

  1. Entrance: keep it clear, well lit and free of clutter.
  2. Commanding position: see the door from your bed and desk, without being directly in line with it.
  3. Light and air: let in natural light, open the windows and fix anything broken.
  4. Declutter: in feng shui, cluttered corners are said to hold stagnant energy.
  5. Elements: use plants (Wood), warm light (Fire), ceramics (Earth), metal decor (Metal) and water features or blue tones (Water) in moderation.

Feng shui and BaZi

Your BaZi chart shows your favourable elements, so you can bring those into your space for a more personal setup. See favourable element.
